Lesson Outline
I began with a phonological awareness exercise followed by a review of the sound deck with visual, auditory, and blending drills. I revisited the drop e spelling rule, dictating example words (riding, hiding, giving, shaking, living.) Kip has mastered this rule. Next, I dictated five irregular words from a list of 170 most common irregular words (could, your, were, know, and knew.) My goal is to work through this list during my session with Kip. I taught the doubling spelling rule as a new concept (dimmed, patted, running.) To conclude, we co-read two chapters of the novel to practice fluency and comprehension strategies.

Lesson Comments
Kip's reading prosody is awkward. I think he needs lots of practice, which we will do. Reading is not a preferred activity, I can tell!
