Lesson Outline
After reviewing the concept of "The American Dream" ,we examined the text to identify the novel's metaphor for the dream -George and Lennie's ' Edenic quest for a farm where they can "live off the fat of the land." We discussed the novel's theme questioning whether the "American Dream" was achievable by anyone given the novel's Depression context. I further elaborated on the novel's biblical allusion to the Garden of Eden in the characters' description of their vision of the "American Dream". Last, we placed in the notebook the novel's secondary theme of "male bonding" and loneliness .For homework read to page 32 and answer study guide questions.
