Lesson Topic
Macbeth Act V
Lesson Outline
We completed the study of this Shakespearean tragedy by first identifying those who die in the final act of the play . Max kept notes on Lady Macbeth's suicide triggered by a guilty conscience as well as Macduff's revenge killing of Macbeth who slaughtered Macduff's family. We then listed final prophesies of the witches and noted how each is realized but not in the way Macbeth anticipated. I further read aloud and explained many of the famous speeches in Act V,including Macbeth's iconic"out out brief candle " soliloquy. Max perceptively noted how bleak and fatalistic Macbeth has become since we first met him in Act I. We further viewed portions of Act V from a production put on at the Kennedy Center. From our study, Max recognized the famous speeches. Last, we reviewed the assignments on the play from Max's London school which we will begin to address tomorrow.
