Lesson Outline
Max's school in London forwarded a list of literary terms and spelling words related to Macbeth that we studied today in preparation for a quiz tomorrow on the material. On the board, I outlined the relationship between the terms: Shakespearean tragedy, protagonist, antagonist, and peripeteia. We discussed specific examples from the play and concentrated on the correct spelling of the terms.Likewise, with respect to the term "apparition", we read from the text of the play the scene where the three apparitions appear and discussed the symbolic meaning of each apparition. Last, we reviewed the term"iambic pentameter" and I explained the concept of stressed and unstressed syllables in a line.We looked at some examples of iambic pentameter in the text of the play as well as examples of "lower" class characters who speak in blank verse. For homework, study for spelling test on literary terms.
