Session Date
Lesson Topic
Design, build, and test, Newton's first law of motion
Lesson Outline
Kellan and I began our session with watching a 'Generation Genius' video, introducing the egg drop challenge. We then watched a video observing the experiment being done. We then began hypothesizing. Kellan illustrated three different models - a balloon, a box with inserts, and a tupperware with cotton balls. Kellan began hypothesizing that an egg in a blown-up ballon would work best and wrote his hypothesis on his lab sheet. Unfortunately, the egg would not fit inside the balloon and therefore, Kellan's hypothesis was incorrect. I explained to Kellan that being wrong is apart of the experiment. It is a part of being a scientist! The model that was successful was the tupperware filled with cotton balls. This experiment allowed Kellan to observe Newton's first law of motion and he was able to design, build, and test a model.
