Lesson Outline
Richard was greeted in the lobby at 8:40. Progress was being discussed with Ms. Debbie regarding phonemic and phonological awareness. She expressed concern about "th" however because Richard makes this articulation error, this may be difficult for him. We have not targeted "th" in therapy because it would be contradicting the tongue placement of /s/ therefore we have not targeted that sound yet. Richard was told that because of testing, the cafe grand opening that him and MS. Andrea were going to do tomorrow would be have to hold off until next week. It took a while and many explanations to grasp this concept. He appeared frustrated. We went over emotion cards to assist with verbalizing his feelings. When shown pictures, he was able to express his emotions and that he was feeling tired today. Richard did the date/day of the week independently today for the first time which was fantastic. He is starting to really understand this concept which is important. We did an activity called "heads up" which is a game where he has to explain the object that is shown without using the words. For example, for a grill - Richard explained to SLP that it was something to cook on and it can open and close. This targets word finding and vocabulary. This was challenging for him but still fun. We will continue to work on that language goal while continuing to target /s/ in conversational speech and rate of speech. Overall, Richard did well in today's session. It should be noted his attention is limited and requires frequent redirection to task and breaks to assist with this.
