Lesson Outline
To begin, Jack sequenced the alphabet using manipulative letters. He identified the vowels and consonants. I asked him to "build" his name, Jack. Next, I asked him to substitute a letter to build the following: pack, sack, snack, quack. He wanted to build a Minecraft word, blaze, and then substituted the first letter to make maze. I administered the visual drill, which helps with reading, followed by the auditory drill, which helps with spelling. Phonemes for the auditory drill included /p/, /z/, /e/, /x/, /k/. To conclude, we played a game of sight-word Jenga. I was amazed at the number of sight words Jack knows! He told me he learned them from a video called "Meet the Sight Words."

Upon reflection, I do not think that Jack is a good candidate for online learning this summer.
