Lesson Topic
Macbeth Act V
Lesson Outline
After reviewing the use of the water motif in scene(i), we noted its recurrence as Macbeth urges the doctor to cleanse Lady Macbeth of what ails her heavy heart using all the"water " in his domain. Matthew did well in inferring that Lady Macbeth ,overcome by guilt, has taken her own life . In response, Macbeth makes his renown "tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow" soliloquy which we parsed followed by Matthew paraphrasing the soliloquy in his notebook and then identifying the metaphors within the soliloquy. We discussed Macbeth's bleak sombre view of life as meaningless in light of the events in the play. Matthew commented that Macbeth's ambition proved valueless given that he was very well off as Thane Of Cawdor without aspiring to be king. Last, we viewed Act IV of the Kennedy Center's production of Macbeth. HW- finish reading the play/ans study guide questions.
