We continued our introductory lesson to Dickens and the Victorian novel by my placing on the board characteristics of both the Romantic novel and the Victorian novel. I discussed how Dickens incorporates many elements of the Romantic novel into his books such as emotion, sentiment , and idealized women. I further elaborated on Dickens' portrayal of all social classes , on his criticism of the upper and middle classes, and in general the class rigidity of Victorian society .Next, I discussed Dickens' use of caricature to satirize Victorian society and the use of detailed description ,successive adjectives ,and anaphora as elements of Dickens' writing style.
