At the beginning of class Jadyn told me that she wasn't in school because she had anxiety about the assembly today. She said that she told her mother she had to publicly speak today and her mother supported her missing school today. I gently reminded Jaydn that this was not at all the case and that I am sensitive to her shyness and hesitancy re: public speaking. At no time was Jaydn ever advised that she would have to publicly speak today. That was never the expectation. Her sole responsibility was to research and put together a presentation on Maya Angelou. We had even discussed that I would share it with the group if she so wished.
