Lesson Outline
As Victorian class rigidity is Matthew's chosen research topic, we studied the next chapter's social criticism of upper class social clubs that serve no purpose other than to provide an excuse for quarreling and inebriation. Additionally, we examined Dickens' ongoing social criticism of the societal manners of the middle class who stage a rather unnatural funeral procession for Mrs. Joe. Pip and Biddy's strained conversation about Pip's promise to visit more often led to a discussion of Pip's failure to realize his own self absorption in contrast to Biddy, who is perceptive enough to realize Pip's assurances are worthless. During the second segment of the session, I provided additional instruction on how to locate and to cite reliable research materials. I projected a number of academic articles on the screen and noted why they are deemed reliable sources of research . HW- locate 3 reliable research articles/ r . next chapter of novel.
