In this regard, we discussed the significance of Magwitch's exclamation to Pip that ,"I'm, your second father.". Matthew discussed Pip's revulsion toward his "second father" and raised questions about the impact of the Transportation Law on Pip's decision to hide Magwitch from the authorities. In this regard, we conducted an in-depth analysis of the symbolic connection between clothes and identity noting where this motif has appeared previously in the novel. We studied Pip's conclusion that the more Pip tries to disguise the fugitive ,Magwitch, in new clothes the more Magwitch's true character pierces the facade.
