Lesson Topic
Secant lines in circles
Lesson Outline
I explained to Sam the definition of a secant line and how to find the arc measures created by the intersection of two secant lines. I had to show him how there were two types of intersections. The first type of intersection is where the lines intersect inside the circle. The second type is where the lines intersect outside the circle. The formulas for calculating the arcs created by those intersections depend on which type of intersection we are studying. I also explained how the segment lengths are computed by two formulas depending on which type of intersection was created by the two secants. We did some problems to practice using the formulas. There was no assignment.
