Lesson Topic
The Age of Television
Lesson Outline
We looked at some of television's major milestones. Beginning in the 1960s, the landscape of television changes with the first televised presidential debates between Kennedy and Nixon. Television brought the horrors of the Vietnam war into peoples' homes. Television also brought the joy, sights and sounds of the British musical invasion when the Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. In 1968, Americans were horrified to see an escalation of the Vietnam War, and immediate news of the assassinations of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy - just 2 months apart in the spring of that year. Television ended the decade in wonder as people in the US and around the world watched the first astronaut, Neil Armstrong, walk on the moon.
