For our first lesson, we initially reviewed some of the books Atticus read at his prior schools as well as some he would like to read this year. Specifically, Addicus mentioned "Lord of the Flies" which we can definitely add to the syllabus. As our first novel is set in NYC in the Metropolitan Museum of Art and as Addicus indicated he had visited this museum, we discussed the exhibits in the museum as well as the Italian Renaissance. We then clarified the distinction between fiction and non-fiction and discussed examples of each.
