Today, Noelle worked on rounding to estimate. We began with rounding to the nearest ten, hundred, and thousand, looking to the neighbor number to determine if the rounding digit stayed the same or increased by 1. Once Noelle was confident with these, we practiced rounding each place with numbers to the millions. Then, Noelle used rounding to estimate the values of addition and subtraction equations. Finally, we discussed how to multiply by multiples of 10, 100, and 1,000 using basic facts. Noelle rounded the factors, crossed out zeros, solved the basic multiplication fact, and added the crossed-out zeros to find the estimated product.
