The French & Indian War
Lesson Outline
The French and Indian War was fought in North America between the British & French fighting with their Indian allies. The fight was over territory in eastern Canada through the Ohio River Valley to New Orleans. Although British efforts failed for several years, the tide of war turns in favor of the British. Several decisive military victories followed, with the French finally ceding their territory east of the Mississippi in the 1863 Treaty of Paris. The British claimed military success in the war, but their territorial expansion was costly. To finance the French and Indian War, the British government enacted heavy taxes on American colonists, unknowingly adding fuel to a fire that would ultimately become the American Revolution.
