Lesson Outline
Queen Elizabeth I was the last monarch from the House of Tudor. She ruled England through its Golden Age from 1558 to 1604. The Golden Age was an era famous for England's growing wealth and prosperity. Its economic development was largely attributed to the trading of wool and the enclosure of land. The period of peace saw a significant increase in arts and culture. The respected works of names like William Shakespeare, Christopher Marlowe, and Thomas Kyd helped mark this era. In addition to culture, the aspect of exploration and scientific discovery also brought rise to respected explorers such as Francis Bacon, John Dee, Sir Francis Drake, and Sir Walter Raleigh.
