Lesson Topic
Julius Caesar
Lesson Outline
We studied the first soliloquy in the play delivered by Cassius, and discussed what the audience learns from the soliloquy i.e. that Cassius is manipulating Brutus to advance Cassius' own ambition . I discussed how this creates dramatic irony and reviewed the definition of dramatic irony. As Joshua had some difficulty comprehending the plot sequence , I then reviewed the critical segments and explained how to use the marginal annotations to glean the meaning of unfamiliar or difficult phrases and words . I further pointed out the many famous lines that appear in the first act of the play such as : "It was Greek to me.."Until then think of the world....and Men are sometimes masters of their fates." I explained that the reference to the "stars" connotes fate or destiny. We then worked on modifying some of Joshua's study guide answers based on class discussion.
