Lesson Outline
Santino was assisted in two language arts activities in which he created sentences using individual words. He was asked to find two parts of speech, a subject and verb, from an array of words. Together we found the word (the subject) 'I' and then found action words (verbs) to pair with our subject to make sense. We found 'laugh,' 'smile,' and 'run.' (e.g., 'I smile,' 'I laugh,' 'I run.' For the other language-related activity, Santino was asked to find words that were associated with one another. Together, we found 'flower' and 'bloom.' We used flash cards to match different objects with their function or connection. Santino identified the words as we paired them (e.g., hammer and nail; bird and nest, etc.). Next, Santino used tangram shapes to create the object shown on a template, insuring that the pieces fit exactly over the design pictured. Today we focused on letter shapes. Santino demonstrates good bi-manual coordination and visual-perceptual skills. He was able to independently recreate all the designs with which he was challenged. Santino ended the day responding to directives involving positional cues. He has very good receptive language skills. We will continue to address improving Santino's expressive language skills. We only went outside for 5 minutes this afternoon due to inclement weather.
