Queen Charlotte
Lesson Outline
Queen Charlotte was a fascinating woman and many of her interests left a mark on history. Charlotte was a patron of the arts and an amateur botanist who helped expand Kew Gardens. She introduced the Christmas tree to Britain, after decorating one for a Christmas party for children from Windsor in 1800. She maintained a close relationship with Queen Marie Antoinette of France and was horrified by her friend's murder during the French Revolution. The Queen is said to have made debutante balls and tea time British traditions. She was also a patron of the arts. She endorsed Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart from the first time she heard him perform - when he was only 8 years old. The life of this British monarch was so fascinating that Netflix will be featuring a series specifically about Queen Charlotte. Jaydn was very enthusiastic about this news.
