Lesson Topic
President Barack Obama: Election, Policies & Accomplishments
Lesson Outline
Barak Obama was the first African American president of the United States. He was in office between 2009 and 2017. One of his signature achievements was the passage of Obamacare. Obama successfully used social media during his run for office, which attracted many young voters, especially students. Obama helped to advance the cause of gay rights during his time in office, but his achievements were not universally praised. The Tea Party was one group that harshly criticized him. One of the reasons they opposed him was that they believed Obamacare (the Affordable Healthcare Act) would increase the national debts. Another reason was his purported inaction during the Benghazi terrorist attacks.
