Liam reviewed his vocabulary words and their definitions that he had written in his notebook. He read the story, "A Mountain of History." We discussed the importance of monuments, and why societies build them. He answered in writing reading comprehension questions pertinent to the story. We discussed the meaning of compound words and how they are used in sentences. He wrote the definition of a compound word with examples in his notebook. He then completed an activity about compound words demonstrating his understanding of the words. He read another reading comprehension story about a Navajo code talker from World War II. We discussed the reasons why this Native American was a hero, and how his language saved lives during the war. He answered comprehension questions in his notebook about the story.
