As our next novel is drawn from the fictional fantasy genre, I introduced the unit by an open discussion on things we wish we could see or do such as meeting an historical figure. Atticus wished he could have gills and lungs so he could swim deep underwater. We then discussed how fantasy fiction can be both a form of escapism and a source of learning something new about ourselves. I next introduced the setting and characters of the novel. Last, we addressed Atticus' homework as he encountered difficulty summarizing the material on the Iroquois . We worked on locating the major points in the material and organizing them into a summary. Attticus then completed his written work .
