Lesson Outline
I placed two topic charts on the board : Fantasy/ Ordinary and Omri/ Little Bear. I then asked Atticus to complete the charts by identifying from chapter 1 examples of fantasy and the ordinary and by identifying character traits of Omri and Little Bear . Atticus did very well with both exercises and we discussed how the author's mixing ordinary scenes with fantasy enables the reader to readily "accept" the elements of the fantasy . We then located textual support for the character traits Atticus identified for Omri and Little Bear. Last, using a list of time sequence connector words, Atticus prepared a written summary of Chapter 1 which we reviewed to address spelling and punctuation.
