He learned about why WWI was the first modern, mechanized war in world history due to the introduction and use of weapons such as machine guns, tanks, poison gas, blimps, early model airplanes, and submarines. WWI was a total war and soldiers spent much of it stuck in trenches along the Western & Eastern Fronts. Today's lesson also reiterated why the U.S. mobilizes and sends troops to fight on the side of the Allies in 1917.
