Lesson Outline
Using chapter titles to discern chapter themes, we today examined Little Bear's boast of scalping 30 French soldiers in the French-Indian War of the 1700s. After discussing the practice of scalping and its brutality , we discussed whether cultural values of the 21rst Century should be applied in evaluating historical acts or behavior. We then examined the text and focusing on character development identified how Omri's language and behavior toward Little Bear sound like a parent caring for a child. During the remainder of the session, Atticus took a quiz on chapters. 1-3 of the novel.
