Frankenstein
Lesson Outline
We are continuing our analysis of the parallels between the novel and Milton's "Paradise Lost" by comparing Frankenstein and God and the monster and Satan. Further, we are considering why Shelley subtitled the novel "A Modern Prometheus. " We discussed how both Frankenstein and Prometheus are condemned to eternal torment as punishment for creating Man. With regard to the monster, we noted again how he compares himself with both Satan and Adam (of Milton's "Paradise Lost"). Joshua discussed the dichotomy of Satan/Adam (evil/innocence), and I expanded that discussion by relating it to the doppelgänger motif. We then reviewed all of Joshua's study guide homework . His work was very complete and insightful. Last, as Joshua is working on a written poetry analysis of "Mutability" , we looked at an AP poetry analysis question that is very similar to the assignment and noted how the prompt is worded and what type of support the essay requires i.e . identifying how literary techniques contribute to mood and meaning.
