Lesson Topic
Energy in the Atmosphere - Energy and Matter
Lesson Outline
Today, Atticus started the Energy in the Atmosphere unit. We began by observing popcorn popping in slow-motion. Atticus brainstormed what causes popcorn to pop. We discussed that the liquid water in the kernel heats up and turns into a gas, expanding and causing the kernel to explode open. We performed a lab activity exploring how particle movement determines temperature. He held a wood block and a metal block in different hands and observed that the metal block was colder. He recorded that the reason is because the particles of the metal object are moving more slowly than the particles of the wood block.
