As Atticus did very well in his reading comprehension homework, we today began writing an essay on O"Henry 's story ,"After Twenty Years.". We first discussed the author's direct and indirect characterizations of the two main characters and in the text underlined supporting details. I then distributed an essay prompt on the story. After we reviewed what to incorporate in the opening paragraph and how to draft a thesis statement, Atticus drafted a good thesis statement and introductory paragraph. We further discussed how to use the second paragraph to demonstrate the thesis -the divided loyalties of the main character. As I assisted Atticus in organization he continued to draft both a second and a final paragraph focusing on proving the thesis statement.
