Math: Today lesson 94 began with rounding to the nearest 10. We looked at several examples such as 67, 81, and 11. We identified the nearest 10 and discussed that a number like 35, would round up to 40. She practiced finding the tens that each provided number is between and circling which 10 it was closest to. On her Guided Class Practice / Homework activities she read addition (money) word problems, practiced rounding as described above, completed a pictograph (following a key of counting by 2s), used comparison symbols with balancing equations, and two-digit subtraction with and without rounding. Finally, we are drilling time (using a “pick me” of clock flashcards cup throughout our session) and subtraction by flipping cards in a “war” game style quick drill. ELA: To expand on her social studies work, Sadee’s Language textbook activity provided with her a word bank to help write four sentences about George Washington. She also completed a fill-in-the-blank story with facts about him. For letters and sounds work, Sadee practiced doubling the final consonant and adding -ing, identifying root words as well as prefix and suffix, matching opposites, writing words to match pictures, and circling the -are in words like care, share, and rare. For writing, we brainstormed some thoughts and ideas about the American flag on an anchor chart. Sadee then generated a sentence to tell where she saw a flag over the weekend (at the baseball field). We will be printing the picture her family took and creating a page for a class book throughout the week. To wrap up our study of Dinosaurs Before Dark, we completed a part of speech hunt to find exciting nouns, verbs, and adjectives in chapters 1 – 10. Sadee used one of her combinations to generate her own sentence. Next, she wrote a story using the prompt, “If I had a pet dinosaur, I would…”. Finally, she put 15 words from the book in ABC order. Bible: Sadee was introduced to her memory verse for the week, Isaiah 55:0, “Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near.” For our Bible story today, we read, I Samuel 16 “God Chooses David”. We read about how God led Samuel to find David and anoint him the next king of the Israelites.
