Oxidation
Lesson Outline
Sadee enjoyed performing an experiment using materials which included pennies, salt, and vinegar this morning. Part of the experiment took one hour before results could be observed. Sadee noticed that in one of the two bowls, the combination of salt and vinegar produced a chemical reaction that cleaned the pennies. In the other bowl, using just the vinegar was to have created a chemical reaction called oxidation; however, Sadee waited for these pennies to turn a blue-green color but it had not yet changed by the end of class. She read a book called the Lincoln Memorial and was proud to demonstrate her good reading skills. We then watched a video about the Liberty Bell and Sadee also worked on a map activity. She counted the states and circled her state of Georgia. Sadee finished up by completing her penmanship page, taking care to bring her letters down to the line. I read the next chapter, 'The Mystery' in 'The Boxcar Children, the Yellow House Mystery' before we ended our productive session.
