Lesson Outline
Math: Today we began with written assessment 17. This tested Sadee’s skills with addition word problems, reading a chart to find most and fewest, measuring in inches, time, place value, and addition and subtraction. Sadee scored a 94% with one minor calculation error. We then completed Saxon lesson 95. The focus of this lesson was subtraction by 7, in which Sadee is quite fluent! It also focused on estimating and counting large collections. We reinforced estimating and rounding to the nearest 10 with a learning video on Brain Pop Jr. Her Guided Class Practice / Homework activity tasked her with word problems using time in hours, expanded form and written number form, pictographs, matching numbers and words, time, rounding, and addition and subtraction. We are working to make sure she uses the “key” to reflect items in her pictographs. We continued our review of time and subtraction with flash cards and quick subtraction drills.
Bible: Sadee worked to memorize her Bible verse for the week. We also enjoyed reading a children’s picture book of the Bible story of David and Goliath.
ELA: For writing today, we added two more sentences to her flag picture project. We worked with her spelling words through writing them two times as well as generating two sentences using words from her list. To tie in with her social studies activities, we enjoyed the fiction book, “Duck for President” by Doreen Cronin. Sadee then completed a creative writing piece using the prompt, “If I would be president”. Her initiatives as president would be to drink coffee (as Duck did in our book), change the spelling of “would” to “wod”, and change the flag to pink, white, and purple! Her phonics textbook activities tasked her with identifying the “tain” in words like fountain, captain, chieftain, changing the y to “i” and adding the suffix (er, est), identifying prefixes, circling compound words in a word search, identifying the correct -dge words to match a picture, marking special sounds, and writing antonyms.
