Lesson Topic
Boy in the Striped Pajamas
Lesson Outline
Today's session focused on reading comprehension of the novel and the use of similes. Using the study guide homework as a foundation, we addressed Atticus' questions about events in the novel by examining the text along with study guide in order to formulate written responses that were less general and more text specific. After examining the author's use of simile , Atticus revised his study guide response by astutely recognizing that the function of the simile was to portray the Nazi soldiers as unfeeling and emotionless. Atticus is very interested in increasing and applying his already vast vocabulary and as such we incorporated words such as "ergo" and" rationalization" into his work.
