Lesson Outline
Math: We began by completing lesson 104 which focused on a subtraction word problem with money, dividing pennies in half, comparing numbers and equations, measuring to find perimeter in centimeters, number patterns, and addition and subtraction with borrowing and carrying. We then reviewed several items from lessons 105 and 106 including time to the minute, measuring centimeters, and drawing lines of symmetry. Sadee read the time on 12 analog clocks (to the minute) for extra practice. We also reviewed some picture cards to estimate the time each task would take. For lesson 107, the focus was on counting all four types of coins and then showing money amounts two ways using these coins. We used some real coins to help support understanding through hands-on work. Her Guided Class Practice / Homework tasked her with practicing this skill as well as addition word problems containing extra information, measuring in centimeters, finding perimeter in inches and in centimeters, rounding to the nearest ten, drawing the time to the minute on an analog clock, and double-digit subtraction requiring borrowing. She wrapped up math by identifying even and odd numbers. ELA: Sadee began with writing her spelling words two times in her notebook.
For her phonics textbook work Sadee worked to choose the correct homophone to complete the sentences, circle special sounds and mark vowels, complete sentences by adding the correct community helper described, match contractions, write rhyming words, find the “c” as in city in 10 words, find the eigh as in eight in 8 words, and add the suffix -est by changing the “y to i”. She also matched contractions to the two words and then wrote a sentence using contractions. Next, we read her literature study for this week, The Little Red Hen. Sadee did a great job reading the voices of the animal characters! We completed a story map to identify the characters, setting, and problem of the story. Sadee then answered several comprehension questions as well as determined if she agreed or disagreed with statements and used text evidence to support her statements. Bible: Sadee practiced her memory verse.
Science: Sadee began with handwriting activity about the first day of spring. She read and copied the sentences. We enjoyed the story of Curious George Flies a Kite. We discussed George’s antics in the story and then Sadee completed a handwriting activity about flying kites in the spring! She added two more sentences independently and drew a picture. We combined spring and math with counting kites and writing a number sentence as well as counting spring-related items to complete a bar graph activity.
