Lesson Outline
This morning, after eating a hearty breakfast, Caleb began work by identifying the different attire looking at illustrations of people in different professions. He then moved onto a 'line trace,' in efforts to practice and develop his fine motor, dexterity, and coordination skills. His next activity tasked him with visual perceptual discrimination; he was tasked with finding and circling the letter 'X' amidst a series of differently-sized letters. Caleb required supportive prompts to help him with this task. He was a bit challenged by another visual perceptual/discrimination activity tasking him with counting pictures beginning with the letter 'X; Illustrations of X-rays and xylophones were pictured. Caleb was able to count the different pictures correctly but had difficulty discriminating the distinguishing features between them. It should be noted that this was not an easy task and that his performance facilitated with supportive prompts. Caleb then enjoyed an opportunity to play; he follows directions well and is very cooperative when it comes time to clean-up. Using directional cues, we practiced tracing and Caleb was responsive to positive reinforcement offered in the form of praise. His fine motor coordination and pencil grip will likely improve with age and growth as he develops. Caleb counted to twenty today without error. He finished his academic work counting items, attaining 100% on the 6 rows on which he was tasked. We enjoyed time outside in the playground with Sadee again today, and we observed a cardinal and a family of pretty Monarch butterflies. Caleb showed me how fast he runs, too - proudly exclaiming, "my daddy showed me!" Once indoors, we played 'Pop the Pig.' with Caleb counting the cookies as he fed the pig. We finished our session using different safety pattern scissors to cut out various shapes and turn them into puzzles. I snapped several pictures of Caleb with his two sisters before he left school. I will miss his joyous spirit, and wish him and the family all the very best life has to offer!
