Math: We completed a review activity on standard and expanded form. We discussed language used in subtraction and addition word problems, as well as practiced counting various coins as well as just quarters. Sadee then took her Written Assessment 20. She did well overall, with a few minor errors. ELA: We began with Sadee’s spelling and dictation test. She scored a 100%. Next, we continued our study of The Little Red Hen. Sadee answered some additional comprehension questions as well as determined if she agreed or disagreed with statements and used text evidence to support her decisions. We worked through some examples from the text to discuss and utilize the skill of inference. For grammar we reviewed contractions in which Sadee formed the contractions from two words in the sentences as well as in a passage. We also looked at compound words and contractions, really analyzing the differences. For writing today, Sadee wrote about, “It is Spring!” She drew a beautiful picture of a rainbow and wrote multiple sentences and questions about things we see in spring. In her writing today we worked with the plural ending rule of “drop the y and add -ies” with words like baby and bunny. We were so excited to have a little time to finish reading the final four chapters of The Magic Tree House book 2: The Knight at Dawn. As we read, we discussed higher level vocabulary such as guided, precipice, and dismounted. We analyzed events as they occurred with making predictions, discussing our mind pictures, and making inferences. Bible: Sadee practiced her memory verse. She has this longer verse at 100% with the exception of missing one word. Science: We began with a video about how rainbows are formed. Sadee completed a handwriting activity about rainbows. She read the short passage and worked diligently to write neatly. We discussed ROY G. BIV to help remember the order of the rainbow colors and she colored her own rainbow.
