Based on our prior class discussion and study guide work we today completed and discussed a literary glossary of the following: plot, setting, conflict, and irony. With respect to conflict, I specified the types of external and internal conflicts that characterize many literary works and Atticus did very well in citing textual examples of these conflicts. We then studied the text and discussed Maria's statements that illustrate her external conflict with the prevailing Nazi society. Last, we reviewed Atticus' homework and focused on ways to provide specific answers to study guide questions instead of relying on generalizations .
