Lab exercise to demonstrate a single replacement reaction.
The set up was crushed calcium carbonate in a side arm flask into which sulfuric acid is poured.
The gas is collected in a flask of calcium hydroxide, which forms a precipitate with the carbon dioxide produced. The CO2 which accumulates in the top of the Florence generator flask is tested with a burning wood splint. The splint is extinguished.
