Continuing our essay writing instruction, Atticus today worked on locating textual support for his thesis statement and then incorporating the support into a second or supporting paragraph. We discussed how Maria ,an adult, sees the cruelty surrounding her but feels unable to act and then located appropriate quotes from the text . We then noted how Bruno ,a child, can not understand the implications of Nazi cruelty and I demonstrated how to use a transition phrase such as "by contrast" to join the supporting textual examples for each character .Atticus then completed drafting a second paragraph and began work on a third supporting paragraph .
