Malcolm Mitchell NFL Star Who Values Reading over Sport
Lesson Outline
Malcolm Jarod Mitchell is an author, poet, and a former American football wide receiver. He was drafted by the New England Patriots in 2016. He played college football at the University of Georgia for the GA Bulldogs and he was known as "football royalty" in GA. One day, he was in a local Athens, GA Barnes & Noble and he began to chat with a woman (who had no idea who he was) about her book club. Malcolm asked if he could could join and she said, "honey, I don't think you want to be in a club with middle aged women." Malcolm insisted he did and he became an active member. What Malcolm later revealed to CBS News is that he was more proud of reading and discussing these books than he was of his legendary moves on the football field. He confided he started college with a middle school reading level and strengthening his reading and writing skills was important for him. He is now an avid reader, author and poet. It's never too late to achieve and learn.
