Lesson Topic
Two-Step Equations
Lesson Outline
Today we continued with using inverse operations to solve two-step equations. We used the "I do - We do - You do" method to solving equations of different types. Ben practiced solving equations with fractions and used the distributive property. I was very impressed with Ben's ability to recall how to check his solutions. I had only modeled this for him twice, yet he remembered what to do and was able to show me how to check his solutions. Today's class showed me that Ben has far more capabilities than he leads on.

Lesson Comments
Ben's abilities showed through today. I will say, he is slow at processing information. Teachers are supposed to give "wait time" for a student to answer before they interject to explain. I've learned to give Ben a longer than average wait time to allow him to process what it is that is being asked. (I've interrupted him to explain and realized that he was still thinking). You can see his mind is able to handle these concepts, but it takes time for him to understand it, internalize it, process it, and apply it. This means I will need to scaffold more for Ben (break-down concepts into simpler terms, then use what he learns to apply to the actual Algebraic concept).
