Lesson Outline
Today PJ and I worked on the concept of combining like terms. We discussed a simple problem such as 5a+2a. We considered them 5 apples and 2 apples and combined them together to make 7 apples or 7a. Then I asked PJ to combine 5a+3b (if a was apples and b was bananas). He realized there was no way to combine apples and bananas. They both need to be separate. We practiced adding and subtacting like terms. We discussed why 4y-y wasn't just 4 but instead 3y.
