Solving Two Step Equations
Lesson Outline
Today Aiden and I completed the Solving Two-step Equations Riddle. Aiden worked by using inverse operations to solve for the variable. Aiden is displaying proficiency in this content and is ready to move on. There were times when he made what I call "silly" mistakes. I told him even the best math students make these type of mistakes. As a strategy to help eliminate those silly mistakes, we can go back and grade our work to give ourselves the opportunity to hopefully catch a mistake. (I realize this can be an unnecessary repetitive behavior, so I will be mindful if this becomes something that would impede an efficient workflow). I realized as we were working that we may not have time to complete this activity today, but regardless I want us to move on after today. He asked why. I told him because he is showing mastery and we are ready to build on it. He did a great job of accepting this. We ended up doing all but 2 problems, and we were able to infer the answer to the question, "Why did the muffler quit his car business?" Answer: "He was exhausted." Hee hee :)
