Last night Ben completed revisions to his "Flowers for Algernon" essay . Today, we examined his revisions and discussed further edits. For the most part, we addressed combining sentences and adding punctuation to correct run-on sentences and examined how to remove extraneous words and phrases.I further provided some guidance on paragraph reorganization so that his broader topic sentences appeared first or last in a paragraph instead of breaking up the logic of the paragraph . During the remaining minutes of class, I introduced our next novella, John Steinbeck's "The Pearl." I discussed the purpose of a parable as well as the class struggle and deterministic philosophy that underlie much of Steinbeck's Natualist work.
