Today I gave Aiden a Quiz on 8.1-8.5. He didn't know it was a quiz. I wanted to see how he would do on it without the pressure of needing to get a good grade. We pulled a Mid-Topic Review from the textbook. It was 6 problems with a mixed variety from each section. Aiden got practice with recalling the definitions of vertical and adjacent angles, using scale factors to predict related values, finding and comparing circumference lengths, and properties of unique triangles. Aiden got a 95% on it. The only parts where I helped him were on clarifying how to round (he was to round to the nearest hundredths place, the value was 37.699 and he had trouble recalling that it would be 37.7, once explained he remembered), and on one answer he said, "We would need to be given the third side as 7cm". When a better and more accurate answer was, "We would need to be given the measure of the third side." (we don't know if it would be 7cm, but it could be any measure that fits -so his answer wasn't wrong it just wasn't thorough). I told him it was a Quiz and he was disappointed he didn't get a 100%. I told him if he goes through life getting 95%s on everything he does, he's going places!! He did an excellent job!
