Lesson Topic
The Pearl
Lesson Outline
We explored how Kino imagines his life will be after he finds the perfect pearl . I noted that like the mirage and dream imagery throughout chapter 2 ,Kino's dream is also an illusion. We identified foreshadowing and other references suggesting that ironically Kino's life will not be enhanced by wealth but will be destroyed. We also explored the questionable morality of one acquiring too much wealth in terms of the plot of the novel and also in today's society.Ben further discussed the contradictory role of religion and magic in Juana's life. Last, we reviewed Ben's study guide work and continued noting the author's use of imagery and simile.
