Lesson Outline
Today, Libby and I revisited our conversation about Day of the Dead. I asked her a number of questions about her Halloween experience. As she answered questions, we compared and contrasted her Halloween experience with the celebration of Day of the Dead. We spoke about the scariest costume that she saw (an alien). We spoke about if she observed someone dressed as a skeleton. We discussed how that is in some ways like Day of the Dead as you can see people dressed as skeletons on both days. We spoke about what Halloween means to her (time with family) and compared that with what people are celebrating on Day of the Dead. We spoke again about how it is primarily the people of Mexico who celebrate. We found Mexico on a map. In our discussion, we spoke about some of the things that she liked about Halloween and things she did not like. Libby did an amazing job of remembering how to use Me gusta. She was able to easily express things that she liked with Me Gusta and No me gusta. We took a second to pretend that her Pez dispenser witch was talking and saying things that she likes such as candy, black clothing, and being a witch.
Libby wanted to make another Day of the Dead skeleton mask. So, I allowed her to make one while we had our discussion.
