Libby and I read the book Mi Amigo Esta Triste. As we read, we discussed the images and the text. I gave her some key words just before reading and we practiced them together. Those words were feliz, triste, and amigo. We discussed how different characters were feeling at different points in time and I asked Libby to guess why they may be feeling that way. As we read, I would ask her what the words triste, feliz, and amigo meant in English as we would encounter them in the text. After reading, we cut out some pictures of the pig from the book (Teddy had done the elephant instead). We created small puppets with pictures. They had a sad side and happy side. I asked Libby some questions in Spanish about how he feels in different settings and she would show me the sad face or the happy face in response.
