Triplets, No One Knows cont'd, Dynamics
Lesson Outline
We started on the practice pad discussing triplets and the difference between subdividing beats into groups of 2 and groups of 3. We then applied that understanding to the "drum jam," section of No One Knows, which is almost entirely triplet based. We also discussed the importance of having control over our volume/dynamics and practiced playing with intensity but at a low volume, and at the end of class we began looking at our first "challenge beat."

Chris is doing really well! He's practicing a lot and listening to the songs he's working on, picking up on many subtle details that we hadn't discussed yet. He seems proud of the progress he's making and is excited to learn more. The challenge beat is definitely outside of his comfort zone and while he was struggling with it today I'm sure he'll have it down by the end of the next lesson if not before. He seemed confused by the beat at first, but when I demonstrated the skills learned in the beat and how they can be applied to other songs or beats he seemed more excited.
